Viking Baseball sweeps NCTC; ties NJCAA record

The Vikings stayed hot, extending their win streak to five games, sweeping NCTC last week. They also tied an NJCAA record with 28 runs scored in game two on Wednesday including two grand slams from Caleb Hoover.

In game two at Dub Hayes last Wednesday, NCTC took a 1-0 lead, and the Grayson offense exploded scoring 21 runs in the second inning; thanks in large part to four home runs, including two grand slams. The Vikings scored 11 runs with two out. Easton Paxton led off with a triple, and Chase Womack followed with a two run home run. Kain Sanchez lined a single, and Sloan Barrett followd with an RBI double for a 3-1 lead. After a wild pitch, a JT Cienega sac fly made it 4-1. Two batters later, Austin Godwin hit an RBI single, scoring Carson Garrett. Caleb Hoover drew a walk, and a three run homer from Brandon Creek put the Vikings up 8-1. Paxton drew a walk, and after a groundout for out number two, Sanchez drew a walk, and Barrett followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 10-1. Three straight walks brought in a run for an 11-1 lead. Hoover took the first pitch he saw and deposited it over the fence in left field for a grand slam and a 15-1 lead. A double from Creek and two straight walks loaded the bases once again. Sanchez reached on an error, scoring a run for a 17-1 lead. and Brooks Dwinell capped the monumental inning with a grand slam, and a 21-1 lead, but the Vikings weren't done. 
In the fourth inning, Trey Walker led off with a walk, Barrett lined a double, and Dwinell worked the walk to load the bases. Schultz was hit by a pitch for a run, and Hoover made it a 26-1 lead with his second grand slam of the afternoon. Creek then followed with a walk, and Womack sent a two run homer over the fence in left for a 28-1 lead. NCTC tacked on a grand slam in the fifth inning, but the Vikings completed the run rule victory. 
Barrett had a four hit day, finishing 4-4 with three doubles, and three RBI. Hoover was 3-3 with his two grand slams, finishing with eight RBI. Dwinell, and Womack each drove in four, and Creek had three RBI, as the Vikings tallied 15 hits on the afternoon. 

The game two victory came on the heels of a 10-0 run rule in game one. Grayson put up six runs in the first inning. Hoover brought in a run with a groundout, after the Vikings loaded the bases to start. Creek followed with a two run single for a 3-0 lead. After a Paxton single, Womack sent a three run home run off the indoor facility to cap the big inning. Womack stayed hot, lining a two run single in the third inning to extend the lead to 8-0. Sanchez hit the game ending two run single, scoring Paxton and Creek, who led off the inning with a single and hit by a pitch respectively. 

As the series shifted to Gainesville for the final two games of the series, the Vikings picked up right where they left off. 
In game three last Saturday, the Vikings scored four runs in the first inning, all with two outs. Cienega, Godwin and Hoover all worked walks to load the bases. Creek followed with a two run single, and two batters later, Womack lined a two run single for a 4-0 lead. NCTC added a run in the third inning, but the Vikings weren't finished, getting more production with two out. 
Godwin hit a sharp two run single to extend the lead to 6-1. He added another two run single in the sixth inning, and the Viking defense and pitching took care of the rest in a 8-1 victory. 
Godwin led the offense with four RBI and two hits. Creek and Womack each drove in a pair. Braydon Risley tossed five innings, giving up just one run on five hits and striking out four. Coleman Allison and Caleb Hoover each threw a scoreless inning in relief. 

Garrett was the hero in the series finale, getting a big RBI in extra innings, helping the Vikings complete the sweep with a 4-3 victory. 
Garrett's RBI in the 11th inning, scored Paxton, who led off the inning with a single, and stole second base. 
The game was a scoreless pitcher's duel. NCTC took a 1-0 lead in the fifth, and the Viking offense broke through in the seventh inning with a Hoover home run (his third homer of the series) to tie the game at 1-1. Womack followed with his fourth home run of the series to give Grayson the 2-1 lead in the eighth inning. NCTC took the lead on a two run homer in their half of the eighth inning, but an RBI double from Brandon Seidmeyer tied the game in the ninth inning.
