Viking Baseball falls at Weatherford

The Vikings came up short in both games of a doubleheader at top ranked Weatherford on Wednesday, March 26. 

Game one

Weatherford took game one 3-1. The Coyotes put up three runs in the fourth inning. The first two batters, Tanner Sever drew a walk and Trace Mazon singled. Manuel Salas followed with an RBI double, Jax Marshall grounded out to score a run, and Cayden Byrd followed with an RBI single. 
Nik Sanders homered in his third straight game, sending a solo shot (number six on the year) to left in the sixth inning to bring the Vikings within 3-1, but they could not draw any closer. 
The Viking offense tallied four hits. Kain Sanchez had a pair of hits, while Sanders and Sloan Barrett each tallied a hit. 
On the mound, Kade Neuenschwander threw six innings, giving up seven hits, three runs, walking one and striking out five. 
 
Game two
 
The Coyotes of Weatherford took game two by a score of 7-3. 
Weatherford scored three runs in the first inning. Trace Mazon drew a two out walk, and moved to second on a single by Manuel Salas. Jax Marshall hit a run scoring single, and Cayden Byrd followed with a two run double for a 3-0 lead, but the Vikings battled back.
In the fifth inning, Caleb Hoover launched his 10th homer of the year (he's homered in three of the last four games) to bring Grayson within 3-1.
Weatherford added two runs in the firth, getting an RBI double from Marshall, and an RBI single from Jake Overstreet to take a 5-1 lead.
In the seventh inning, Nik Sanders led off with a single, and moved to third on an error. Brandon Seidmeyer drove in a run with a groundout, to draw within 5-2. A two run double by Overstreet in the Weatherford seventh, put them ahead 7-2.
JT Cienega drove in a run in the top of the eighth, laying down a bunt single, scoring Brandon Creek from second base on an error, but the Vikings could draw no closer.
Cienega led the offense, tallying two of the five hits. Barrett, Sanders and Hoover each tallied a hit. 
On the mound, Peyton Leon drew the start, throwing three innings, giving up four hits, three runs, striking out two, and walking two.
Kai Parker threw two innings, giving up three hits, two unearned runs, striking out four and walking two. Chase Davis also threw two innings, striking out three, giving up two earned runs and three hits. 
Tyler Sudderth threw a scoreless eighth inning, not allowing a hit and striking out one. 
 
The series shifts to Grayson for the final two games of the series on Saturday, March 29. First pitch from Dub Hayes Field is set for 12pm, with the second game set for an approximate 3pm start.
