Grayson Basketball's season came to a close with an 82-65 loss to third ranked New Mexico in the Region V Semifinal game on Friday, March 14.
The Vikings fell behind early in the first quarter, Kayla Jones scored the first four points of the quarter. New Mexico went up 8-4, but Susan Fahnbulleh answered with a three. Grayson took the first lead on a layup from Kayla Jones. She had six of the first nine points for Grayson in this one. Madison Martin gave the Vikings the lead at 11-8, drawing the foul. Diana Letaru closed out the quarter with a layup, but New Mexico led 17-13 at the end of the first.
New Mexico opened the second quarter on a 16-2 run to open up a double digit lead. Fia Filoialii hit a couple key baskets to get the Viking offense going. Valajah Jackson came in off the bench, and scored six points in the quarter, as the Vikings faced a 41-23 halftime deficit.
The Vikings got their long range going to open the third quarter. Kayla Jones hit a pair of three pointers, and Fahnbulleh hit another three, as the Vikings faced a 19 point deficit, but they continued battling. Tay Biglow hit a three in the fourth quarter, to pull within 18, and the Vikings as a team shot 62 percent in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as New Mexico took the victory.
