
Needing a win to get in the tournament, the Grayson Vikings came up with a big 88-80 win over Collin. That win, combined with a Southwest Christian loss to McLennan gave the Grayson Vikings the number three seed heading into the Region V Tournament at McLennan.
It was a back and forth game in the first half. Nicholas Anthony was big from the three point line, hitting a three to give the Vikings a 28-27 lead. His three pointer ignited a 9-0 run, capped by a Croix Cox offensive rebound and putback. Collin came back with a basket, but Terrance Ramirez and Jordan Williams answered with some tough baskets to give Grayson a nine point lead. The Vikings continued their offensive run, and led by eight at the half, thanks to a Juwan Dawes layup.
Collin came out on fire in the second half, scoring 20 of the 32 points, and cut the Grayson lead to just one. Anthony came back with a long two from the corner for a three point lead, and the teams began trading leads back and forth. Anthony was huge, hitting some big shots, and breaking the tie several times. Terrance Ramirez hit a big three for a 72-70 lead, Cox and Kevin Paul Jr were big in the paint down the stretch, getting some big baskets to open a five point lead. Paul Jr put an exclamation point on the game with a breakaway dunk, to send the Vikings to the Region V Tournament.
Ramirez led four scorers in double figures with 23 points, and a team high six assists and three steals. Anthony had 19 points, Paul Jr had 18 points and nine rebounds, while Cox had a double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds>
The Vikings will head out to McLennan to take on Frank Phillips, the number two seed in the West. Tip-off from McLennan will be at 5pm on Wednesdayr, March 13.
