
The Vikings hosted the defending champion Blinn Buccaneers for a doubleheader on Sunday, Feb. 23.
Game one
Blinn took game one by a score of 9-2. Blinn scored two runs in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, Blake Lewis hit a one out single, and Chase Womack drew a walk. Two batters later, Caleb Hoover brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. In the fifth inning, Brooks Dwinell and Chase Womack hit back to back singles. Easton Paxton drove in a run with a single to pull within 5-2. Blinn added four in the seventh to take the victory.
On the mound, the Vikings got six strikeouts from their pitchers. Kade Neuenschwander struck out two in four innings, and Braydon Risley struck out four in 2.1 innings.
Offensively, Paxton recorded a multi-hit game, finishing 2-3. Lewis, Dwinell, and Womack each recorded a hit.
Game two
Some late inning heroics lifted the Vikings to a come from behind 5-3 win in game two!
With Blinn leading 3-0 in the sixth, the Vikings rallied to tie in the home half of the sixth. Caleb Hoover worked a one out walk, and moved to second on a single from Austin Godwin. Carson Garrett grounded out, advancing both runners. Brooks Dwinell walked to load the bases, and pinch hitter Nik Sanders worked a walk, bringing home a run. Brandon Creek tied the game with a two out single.
In the seventh, Chase Womack led off with a single, and two batters later, Caleb Hoover sent a two run home run to left field for a 5-3 lead in what would prove to be the game winner.
Clay Kemp shut the door with three innings out of the bullpen with Carson Garrett making a sliding catch in right field to end the game. Grady Moore started the game, throwing three innings, striking out five.
Offensively, Hoover and Godwin each recorded multi-hit game, with Hoover finishing 2-2 with the homer and two RBI. Godwin finished 2-3, while Creek was 1-2 with two RBI, and drew three walks.
The Vikings will close out their homestand with a four game series against Howard. Series begins with a double-header on Friday, Feb. 28 at 12pm at Dub Hayes.
