Viking Men run by Temple

Viking Men run by Temple

A big first half that saw the Vikings lead by as many as 30 in the first half, and 34 at the half, was more than enough to defeat the Temple Leopards 91-49 on Saturday, Feb 15 as the second half of NTJCAC play continued.
Terrance Ramirez cut and slashed to the basket on the games first possession, and the Vikings were off and running. Kevin Paul Jr scored the next four, as it was very quickly 6-0 in the first few minutes of the game.
Temple split their first attempts from the free throw line for their first point of the game, but Paul Jr quickly answered with a hook shot, and it was an 8-1 Viking run to start the game. The Grayson defense was ferocious all game long, not giving Temple any open looks. The duo of Ramirez and Paul Jr were clicking early on, with Ramirez cutting through the Temple defense for another basket to help Grayson to a 10-1 lead at the first media timeout.
The Vikings continued their dominating first half, as Ramirez made it a 16-1 ball game with a contested layup, prompting a Temple timeout with 13:46 left in the half.
Ramirez sent the Vikings to the 30 point lead with a three from the top of the key with 5:18 left in the half.
Temple didn't reach double digits in points until 4:00 left in the first half. The Vikings closed the half on an 11-5 run to lead 49-15 at the half.
The second half, the Vikings continued their offensive pace putting up 42 points, and while Temple scored 34 points, they were never able to draw within single digits, as the Vikings took the big victory.
The combination of Ramirez and Paul Jr combined for 49 points; Ramirez had 29 points, and Paul Jr had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Nic Anthony contributed 11 points, as every active player scored at least once in this one.
The win puts the Vikings just two games out of a Region V Tournament spot, as they sit at 11-14 and 3-6 in conference play with five games remaining.
After a bye week on Wednesday, Feb. 19, Grayson will remain home as they take on McLennan on Saturday, Feb. 22. Tip-off is set for 4pm.
