
The Viking Baseball team continued their early season slate, getting back on the road traveling to take on San Jacinto North on Friday, Feb. 14.
Game one
The Vikings lost a close contested pitcher's duel in game one.
The Ravens of San Jacinto took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, scoring on an error. The Vikings tied the game, pushing a run across in the third inning. Chase Womack led off with a single, and moved to second on a sacrifice from Kain Sanchez. Brandon Creek reached on a single, putting runners on the corners with one out. Blake Lewis capped a seven pitch at-bat with an RBI single to tie the game.
San Jac scored the deciding run on a bases loaded walk in the sixth inning.
Lewis led the offense with a pair of hits, and the lone RBI. Womack also recorded a multi-hit game with a pair of hits. Sanchez, Creek, and Easton Paxton all recorded a hit.
On the mound, Braydon Risley threw four innings, striking out five, giving up just three hits and one unearned run. Chase Davis threw two innings out of the bullpen, striking out three.
Game two
The Vikings were firing on all cylinders in an 11-3 run rule victory in seven innings.
Creek led off the game with a single, and moved to second on a sacrifice from JT Cienega. Lewis grounded into a fielder's choice, and the runner was out at third. Paxton drew a walk to put two runners on, and Austin Godwin lined an RBI single to left for the 1-0 lead.
San Jac tied the game in the second inning on a sacrifice fly, but the Viking offense continued to produce.
In the fourth inning, Caleb Hoover led off with a double, and scored when Womack reached on an error. Sloan Barrett followed with a double, to put two runners in scoring position. Womack later scored on a wild pitch, and Barrett scored on a single by Creek, and the Vikings took a 4-1 lead. The Ravens added a run in their half of the fourth on a fielder's choice to cut the lead to 4-2. They threatened to add more with two runners in scoring position, but Donald Lent got the swinging strikeout to end the threat.
In the fifth inning, Hoover drew a two out walk, and Womack was hit by a pitch. A wild pitch put both runners in scoring position, and Barrett scored both on a two run single for a 6-2 lead. A run in the home fifth inning cut the lead to 6-3, but a five run seventh inning by the Viking offense blew the game open.
Paxton and Godwin both drew walks, and after Hoover lined out, Womack drew a walk to load the bases. Barrett continued his dominating day at the plate with another two run single fo an 8-3 lead. Trey Walker followed with another two run single for a 10-3 lead. Cienega, and Lewis both drew walks to load the bases, and Paxton brought home a run, reaching on catcher's interference.
Kade Neuenschwander shut the door in the seventh, striking out the side to send the Vikings to victory.
Barrett led the offense, finishing 3-3 with four RBI. Creek finished 2-5 with an RBI, and Walker had two RBI to lead the offense.
On the mound, Lent struck out six over four innings of work, and Neuenschwander threw three innings out of the bullpen, striking out six.
The Vikings will hit the road again next week, traveling to pre-season number one and defending World Series Champion Blinn for a four game series. First pitch will begin at 4pm on Friday, Feb. 21.
