Vikings claim commanding road victory

Five Grayson Vikings scored in double figures, as they never trailed, taking a commanding 84-31 victory over Ranger on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
Offense was at a premium in the first few minutes of the game, as both teams were deadlocked in a 2-2 tie. Susan Fahnbulleh broke the tie with a jumper from the wing, and Tay Biglow added a three, and it was very quickly a 7-2 lead. Gracie Burckhartzmeyer caught fire, as she scored 10 of her points in the first quarter, including a couple of big three pointers to keep the momentum going for the Vikings, as they led 25-7 at the end of the first quarter. Their defense kept Ranger off balance the entire night, as they didn't give up more than nine points in a quarter.
Madison Martin and Diana Letaru provided the offense in the second quarter, with Martin scoring six of her points, getting good looks offensively, and a ball hawk defensively. She had five straight points, hitting a baseline jumper, and coming up with the steal and layup as Grayson led 34-9 late in the second quarter. Ranger scored seven of the next 12, but the Vikings still held a commanding 39-16 lead at the half.
Kayla Jones got going in the third quarter, scoring eight of the 25 Grayson points. Martin connected on a three, and it was a 64-25 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
Five different Vikings scored in a 20 point fourth quarter, to help Grayson secure the victory, as every active player scored in this one.
Five Vikings scored in double figures, with Diana Letaru leading the way with 16 points, Gracie Burckhartzmeyer added 14, Madison Martin and Susan Fahnbulleh each with 10. Kayla Jones had a double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Martin added seven steals defensively.
