A slow start offensively was quickly evaporated, as the Vikings rode a big second half to take the 74-58 victory over Dallas College North Lake on Saturday, Jan. 4 to close out non-conference play.
Grayson fell behind 6-0, before Croix Cox made a layup. The deficit then grew to 12-2, and then the Viking offense took off. Josh Barlow cut to the basket and scored, Nicholas Anthony converted a three point play, Jayden Garces connected on a three, and Barlow tied the game at 14 with a three. His three pointer on the ensuing possession, capped a 15-2 scoring run, and put the Vikings ahead 17-14.
Barlow was big in the first half, scoring 15 points, including eight straight at one point, as the Vikings trailed by just one at the half.
Barlow continued his outstanding evening, converting a three point play to start the second half. Anthony hit a three to build a five point lead, and the Vikings never trailed the rest of the way, as they rode to victory.
Barlow was one of four Vikings in double figures, leading the way with 27 points. Kevin Paul Jr contributed a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Anthony had 14 points. Caleb Alcineus had 11 off the bench.
The Vikings will remain home to start conference play. Southwest Christian comes to town to open. Tip-off from Viking Gym is set for 7pm.
