The Vikings followed up their 97 point outing against EOSC before Thanksgiving, and eclipsed the 100 point mark for the second time this season with a 106-57 on the road at Connors State on Saturday, Nov. 30.
The Vikings jumped out to a commanding 31-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, as they were hot early and often.
Connors State started out the second quarter going on a 12-4 run to cut the Viking lead to just 11, but layups from Kayla Jones and Susan Fahnbulleh got the Vikings rolling again offensively. Fahnbulleh was good on a floater to give Grayson the 41-24 advantage. A three pointer from Gracie Burckhartzmeyer gave Grayson their largest lead of the game; 54-28, and Shaki Abdulazeez closed a big first half from the Viking with a layup to give them a 56-30 lead at the break.
Burckhartzmeyer grew the Viking lead to 73-36 with a three in the third quarter, and followed up with a steal and layup a short time later. Jones dominated the paint and the glass for Grayson all afternoon long, as she scored on back-to-back possessions to give Grayson the 84-41 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
With the game in hand, the bench players picked up where the starters left off, Valajah Jackson made her presence felt in the fourth quarter, as she finished with a near double-double (10 points and nine rebounds) for the second consecutive game.
"I thought our energy was really good today," Head Coach Steve Lowe said. "We were locked in, getting turnovers, and this is what you want coming off a couple days off."
Coach Lowe credited the good practice they had the day before, and also added that a few days off to recharge, be around family etc. for the holiday helps as well.
Jones finished with 22 points, while Burckhartzmeyer and Diana Letaru both contributed 14 points off the bench. Abdulazeez and Madison Carter finished with 12 and 11 points respectively.
After a two game skid, earlier in November, the Vikings responded with two straight wins, as they pushed their record to 8-2 on the season.
"We're still learning as a team," he said. "I think we're starting to see people play really well together. We're going to win some, and lose some. Maybe down the road, we'll win some later we shouldn't have."
The Vikings remain on the road this week as they will travel to NOC-Tonkawa on Friday, Dec. 6 for the first of only two games that will be played in December. The Vikings have four games left before conference play starts.
"I like where we're at right now, but I also like where we could be with conference play looming," he said. "We're in a good spot right now I think. I want to see us get better offensively."
Tip-off is set for 5:30pm.
