
Grayson baseball halted by Navarro with 9th inning rally by Navarro.
Grayson opened up their scoring in the first inning when Connor McGinnis scored Dax Dathe with a line drive to the pull side for the lefty. In the bottom half of the frame, Navarro answered with a lead off double that, eventually came around to score with a series of good situational hitting by the Bulldogs. Cade Medlin ended up finishing the first with a strike out.
In the Grayson half of the second, Navarro pitchers struggled to find the zone, as Grayson started the second with a walk and a hit by pitch. A series of selfless baseball by the Grayson offense allows Luke Piper to score on the Dax Dathe by way of a sacrifice fly to left center field. Medlin was able to bounce back in the second with a crisp inning that consisted of a fly out, a ground out, and strike out to retire the side in orfer in the bottom half of the inning.
Both pitching staffs tightened up in the middle third of the game, as goose eggs lit up the scoreboard until the top of the 6th inning.
In that sixth inning, back to back singles Albert Serrano and Ian Collier put Grayson runners on first and third bringing Luke Piper to the dish. Piper had a stellar two strike approach, and was able to give himself up with a sacrfice ground out to the third baseman scoring Serrano. Grayson couldn't muster anymore offense in the sixth.
Grayson held a 3-1 lead on Navarro going into the bottom of the ninth, when the Navarro offense came to life.
In the ninth, free bases gave life to that Navarro dugout with three walks. Which ultimately lead to the Navarro offense capitalizing on Grayson mistakes, and ended up bringing in the game winning run with a sing to left field, scoring two, sealing the walkoff victory for the Bulldogs.
The Grayson pitching staff utilized five pitchers in this afternoons affair with Navarro. Cade Medlin started the game going three innings scattering three hits, with one run being earned. Medlin had three of Graysons 8 strike outs on the day. Following Medlin's three inning performance Clayton Broeder lead the pitching staff with four strikeouts in his three innings of work. Zach Ryan came in, in the seventh giving up one hit, while striking out one. Beau Leonards came in and threw a third of an inning, only getting one out, allowing three runs on one hit, but allowing three walks. Rye Gunter came in to potentially stop the bleeding, but gave up the hit that sealed the deal for the Bulldogs.
Grayson baseball travels westward to Vernon College on Wednesday, March 16th, with the first pitch of the double header being at 12 P.M..
