After Sam Hartman tied the game with two outs, Emma Rodrigues capped a six run rally with a walk-off home run (her second of the day) to lift the Vikings to an 8-6 victory, and earn the DH split over Weatherford on Saturday, April 13.
Game two
The Vikings fell behind early 5-0 after four innings of play, but they slowly began to chip into the lead.
Rodrigues deposited her first home run ball over the left field fence for the first run. Her third hit of the game came in the sixth inning on an RBI bloop double in the infield that saw the two Weatherford infielders collide. Weatherford added a run in the seventh, but the Vikings had their rally caps on, and answered the call.
Abby Wood led off the seventh with a double. KK King was hit by a pitch, and Layne Reh loaded the bases with one out, reaching on a dropped fly ball. Two batters later, Hartman took the first pitch and tattooed it over the fence to tie the game. Caitlin Casas worked the walk, and on a 2-1 count, Rodrigues ended the game to the cheers of her teammates and Viking Nation.
Rodrigues finished 4-4 with two home runs, four RBI and finished a triple short of the cycle. Hartman finished 2-4 with her grand slam.
JJ Williams threw a complete game in the circle, striking out four over seven innings.
Game one
A six run fourth inning for Weatherford was the difference in an 11-2 victory over Grayson to open.
The Viking deficit was 3-0 in the second inning when Sophia Jenkins connected on a two run blast to cut the deficit to 3-2.
The six runs in the third, and a pair of runs in the fourth aided Weatherford.
Jenkins, Halle Giaudrone, and Mena Zamarron each tallied a hit for the Vikings in the game.
The Vikings begin a four game series with Vernon College this week. The series kicks off on Wednesday, April 17 with the opening two games at Viking Softball Field. First pitch is set for 1 pm and 3 pm.
